It is with great excitement (and some butterflies in my belly) that I announce the ultimate writing challenge, which I am determined to take on over this coming weekend.
As those of you who have read my author profile will know, I am currently writing my first full-length novel.
Needless to say, this is taking me a while.
In the meantime, I am wary about not having any creative outputs for my readers to enjoy.
Whilst short stories are great and offer a lot of scope for inventing interesting characters and settings, I do feel that it’s time to write something more substantial and more similar to a novel in length.
The only question is: where to find the time?
Now, determined to get my bum in the chair and eager to attempt this seemingly impossible feat, I have followed Andrew’s advice and outlined the novella (into 23 chapters).
I will begin to write at 6:00 a.m. GMT on Saturday morning (16th July 2016).
Whilst there will be little scope for me to stop and comment on the process, I will be tweeting the occasional live update (@DarkfictionComa via #24HourNovella).
Whether I will end up having the stamina to actually write for 24 hours straight remains to be seen…
…I am rather attached to my sleep these days.
However, a 12 hour – 12 hour split would still count and mean that I will have written a novella (17,500-40,000 words) within 24 hours!
Of course this will only be a first draft and there will need to be editing and proofreading before I can share my 24-hour-novella with the world (for free).
However, any lessons learned from the process will be carefully collated into a detailed project report which I will also be making available for free (even if I fail to achieve my goal).
Since I can’t share the details of the story that I have cooked up for this challenge yet (still subject to minor change throughout the writing process), let me at least share some general pointers about what is to come:
Title: Mind Wars
Genre: Cyberpunk / Romance
World: A working class world full of people determined to fight their way to a better life.
So, keep your eyes on twitter this weekend and have a good one!
